Top 10 Art Disasters in History

Arts is what defines human culture and primarily makes us unique. The following art pieces however defy their purpose of existence and force us to rethink the rationale of their makers and their admirers. Without any further delay here are the worst art disasters in history:

10. The Mona Lisa

Mona Lisa

Though the Mona Lisa has made its way to this list quite frankly we do accept that it is much much better than all the other trash that has been compiled on this list.

It is a half-length painting of a lady that is created by an Italian artist, Leonardo da Vinci. Actually, he was an engineer and it is visible from his art that he was more of a hobbyist.

9. Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer

You must be thinking that why this painting is on the list of worst art pieces. It is not so bad, right?

Well, that’s why we have placed it at number nine, as it is not even close to the gorgeous girl from the original movie that was released in 2003.

8. A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat

A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat

Actually, it is not a painting. They are just dots. Georges Seurat played the trick with dots to deceive viewers like global warming or the Abominable Snowman.

Therefore, don’t get fooled by these dots masquerading. They are just dots, not real art.

7. Figure 4 by Jasper Johns

Figure 4 by Jasper Johns

Figure 4 by Jasper Johns is located in the Christie’s Galleries at Rockefeller Center, New York. This painting is an example of a collection of strokes, up and down, right and left.

It is meaningless work without a doubt! You can give some different colors to a small kid and you will have a replica within minutes.

6. Nude Descending a staircase, no 2 by Marcel Duchamp

Nude Descending a staircase, no 2 by Marcel Duchamp

What does this painting show? We think Marcel Duchamp had not seen a naked body. It looks like the model in this painting is made up of cubes.

We simply cannot understand how such types of paintings become so popular.

5. The Treachery of Images by Rene Magritte

The Treachery of Images by Rene Magritte

Again a pipe, sorry an image of a pipe. The Treachery of Images or the Treason of Images by Belgian Rene Magritte also stands on our list because, despite the fact that the painter painted this piece when he was 30 years old, the picture looks more like a rookie attempt by a young kid.

4. Boy with Pipe by Pablo Picasso

Boy with Pipe by Pablo Picasso

Boy with Pipe gives really wrong message to the viewers. Everyone knows that smoking is a bad habit that is really injurious to health, but in this painting, a small boy is holding a smoking pipe in his hand.

This is why this painting lies in our list of worst art pieces as it clearly has no ‘art value’ whatsoever.

3. Bieres de la Meuse by Alphonse Mucha

Bieres de la Meuse by Alphonse Mucha

This is a beautiful painting with nice lines and rich colors. The girl in this painting is well-rendered and gives an incredible impression at the first sight. But, later you will look at the beer mug in her hand that gives you the feel to have some beer.

A painting that gives such a signal is definitely not artistic! After all, have you ever seen an art piece in a bar?

2. The Thinker by Rodin

The Thinker by Rodin

The Thinker is a marble and bronze sculpture, present in the museum of Musee Rodin in Paris. There are around twenty other original castings of this sculpture as well as several versions.

This sculpture represents the philosophy of a man meditating on an internal power struggle. But, what we need to consider is whether a sculpture can have a brain or can it think.

1. No. 5.1948 by Jackson Pollock

No. 5.1948 by Jackson Pollock

At the top of the list of worst art pieces is No. 5.1948 by Jackson Pollock. The main reason why this painting is on this list is you can easily recreate it. To much surprise, this painting was actually sold for 140 million USD in 2006.

Given its price, you might want to recreate this painting, right? Well just buy some gallons of paint in different colors and a canvas. After that, just leave the canvas with all colors and some cute puppies in the living room. After some time, you will surely get a great replica of this ‘masterpiece’.

Almost all the top 10 art disasters featured above come either with a wrong message or with meaningless strokes. It’s hard to digest that there are actually people who buy these ugly art pieces and have millions of dollars to waste on them!

This is painful use of spintext.
