This year has been a spectacular year for cinema, with numerous titles that lit up our screens. Here are our picks of the 15 best movies of 2025.

 

15. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle

Nezuko was transformed into a demon, so her brother Tanjiro joined the Demon Slayer Corps. Throughout his journey as a Demon Slayer, he fought alongside his friends Zenitsu and Inosuke. He also had the chance to fight alongside the elite Hashira.

The Demon Slayer Corps are plunged into the Infinity Castle, where they have their final battle with the Demon King Muzan.

 

14. Warfare

In 2006, during the Iraq War, a platoon of Navy SEALs went on a dangerous surveillance mission in Ramadi, Iraq.  The mission doesn’t go as planned, and they have to take control of a local house under the cover of darkness. The family living there is woken up and terrified. They are pushed to one corner of the house. The SEALs find out that the upper floor is a separate apartment, and they breach a wall to gain entry.

The chaos of war and the bond of brotherhood that is forged during these tough times are retold through the memories of the soldiers in a very unprecendeted realistic way.

 

13. Sorry, Baby

Written and directed by Eva Victor, this is a story about Agnes, a literature professor at a small college in rural New England.

When Agnes’ friend Lydie returns and shares the good news about her pregnancy, they start to reconnect. With that comes flashbacks of the time when Agnes was a promising student. At that time, she had a traumatic experience; she was sexually assaulted by her professor, Preston Decker. After that, she struggles with life and has to fight really hard to reclaim her life.

 

12. I Swear

This biographical drama film is based on the true story of John Davidson. He was diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome. This is from a time when this condition was undiagnosed. The story is in two parts. Before and after the 1989 television documentary John’s Not Mad.

Kirk Jones has done a remarkable job by directing, writing and producing on a subject that is to this day not properly understood by a lot of people.

 

11. KPop Demon Hunters

This one is a treat for K-pop lovers. The movie tells the story that every K-pop fan can relate to. Their stars are not just stars but superheroes in disguise.

A world-renowned K-pop girl group balances their lives and their undercover lives as demon-hunters. The movie has everything a K-pop fan can wish for. Fashion, food, style and music.

The group faces a great challenge as they face a handsome rival boy band that has a dark secret.

 

10. Sentimental Value

Renate Reinsve plays Nora, a famous stage actress who struggles with the passing away of her mother. This event brings back a missing piece of her life back to her — her estranged father. To reconnect with her, he writes a screenplay for her to play in, and it is set in her childhood home.

A place rich with memories and an emotional burden on her. Nora is not comfortable with playing in the screenplay, nor does she want to engage with her father because of the deep-rooted wounds from her past.

 

9. Skweezy Jibbs Makes A Movie

Directed by Michael Ward, this movie is actually about what the title says. Skweezy Jibbs, an amateur internet personality, dreams of making a movie despite having no resources or ability to do so. On top of that, his mother interferes with his life, making him question his identity.

Will he be able to make his dream come true even without a budget, no skills or talent? Or will he fold under the pressure from his controlling mother?

 

8. Thunderbolts*

After almost dying in a deathtrap, a group of former villains are recruited by a secret organization to go on a covert mission. They struggle with internal conflicts and moral dilemmas while facing threats from the enemy. Each of them has to prove their loyalty and usefulness to the team.

The movie does a fantastic job of portraying the blurred line between heroes and villains. The storyline, the action and the characters make this a great pick for your next weekend.

 

7. Bring Her Back

After a tragic accident at their house and the death of their parents, Andy and Piper are quickly put in the foster care system. Andy, who is not of legal age for guardianship, has to wait three months to apply for it. So they move into the care of an empathetic foster mother who is silently grieving over something. But there is something off about the artificiality of her behaviour.

There is definitely a deadly secret she is hiding in that secluded home.

 

6. Companion

Irish and Josh have been joined at the hip since they first met in a supermarket. They plan a weekend getaway with Josh’s friends at Sergey’s fancy lake estate. His friends and mistress will join them at the retreat. But soon the happy vacation turns bloody as one of them is found murdered in cold blood.

The relaxing trip becomes a fight for survival for everyone. Ulterior motives spring up, and the dangers of technology and AI that everyone fears become a reality for every human on the estate.

 

5. Frankenstein

Frankenstein is a favourite classic that has been made in different media, from books to movies and theatre.

This 2025 movie, directed by Guillermo del Toro, adapts Mary Shelley’s classic tale of Victor Frankenstein, an egotistical, unorthodox scientist. Frankenstein brings a creature to life in an experiment never done before. But the damned experiment does the endowing of both the creator and creation.

We believe that this remake of this legendary classic did justice to one of the most recognizable characters in classic literature.

 

4. The Ballad of Wallis Island

Money gets to people’s heads, especially if they’ve got it without any effort. This is the story of a lottery winner who lives alone on a remote island. He tries to make his fantasies into reality, so he arranges for his favourite musicians to perform at his home.

Herb McGwyer, who used to be a popular folk musician, gets invited to Willis Island to perform for a lottery winner named Charles. When he arrives to perform for the crowd on the island, he finds out that the audience is just one person – Charles.

Charles has been lucky in life. He has won the lottery twice. He is not lucky in love as his wife has passed away. The performance is a tribute to his late wife, who was a devoted fan of Herb’s music.

 

3. One Battle After Another

Bob Ferguson is an ex-revolutionary who lives in a state of constant fear with his daughter, Willa. Col. Steven J. Lockjaw is Bob’s old nemesis who resurfaces after 16 years and captures his daughter.

Bob reunites with his group of ex-revolutionaries to rescue Willa from the Col. This is the story of fatherhood, redemption and consequences of past actions creeping in the present. 

A highly rated movie that is a must-watch and should definitely be on your watch list.

 

2. Sinners

Twin brothers Smoke and Stack are troubled in their current lives working for the mafia. They move back to their hometown to start again. They buy a sawmill and a juke joint and successfully run them with the experience they had with the Chicago mafia. But soon greater evil than the mafia hit their peaceful town. Evil in supernatural form.

The movie is directed by Ryan Coogler, famous for Black Panther and Creed. The movie stars Michael B. Jordan as the lead (Yes! He is both twins).

 

1. Weapons

Early one morning at 2:17 AM in Maybrook, Pennsylvania, seventeen children from the same class vanished from their homes. The neighbourhood is left questioning who is behind the kidnapping.

When their teacher arrives to take the class in the morning, she finds that Alex is the only one present. Police start questioning Justine and Alex, but they have no clue what happened to the children.

A movie that will keep you second-guessing every step of the way.
