The Future Of IPhones

Future of iPhones

If you asked Mattel’s Magic 8 Ball whether or not the iPhone is going to be around in the year 2020 the response would undoubtedly be ‘signs points to yes’.  Of course, most of us haven’t relied on the predictions of the Magic 8 Ball since we were 8 or so ourselves, but in this case, it seems to be right on and there are some real reasons why. One is the amazing popularity of smartphones. The latest projections show that by 2015 80% of all phones sold will be smartphones and even more promising by 2018 that number will have reached 100%. Some of the features on the original iPhone that were much maligned have become standard on today’s more popular smartphones. Here we take a look at the future of iPhones:

The tech pundits predicted that it was doomed to fail because people would not be able to efficiently type on a virtual keyboard when in reality that was, and still is, one of the iPhone’s most-followed innovations.

The amazing quality of the iPhone’s camera capabilities is another sign that points to yes. The iPhone 4S already comes with an extremely sharp 8-megapixel capability, and is able to record HD video at 1080p, quality previously expected only on digital cameras.

The latest projections say that the point and shoot camera will soon be obsolete, and that makes sense since no one would want to carry a digital camera with them when they already have their phone with them and it would take pictures that are at least as good. The iPhone already takes pictures that are as good as most point and shoot digital cameras and there is no reason to believe that it won’t continue to get better.

Perhaps one of the most convincing arguments that the Magic 8 Ball is correct comes from Ceriel Verschoor who has proposed a design for the futuristic iPhone S which is projected to be released in 2020. It is stunningly beautiful to look at featuring a glass unibody but this iPhone doesn’t have to rely on its looks to get by.

It also features gesture and touch input, 5th generation data network tech, 4 terabytes for local caching, 8th generation gaming capabilities, and features wireless charging. It will be charged simply by the air or your clothing.

It will also feature a situational aware interface that knows the difference between when you are at work, traveling or at home. The ultra-stylish glass unibody isn’t the only visually stunning feature of the iPhone S. It also features a transparent 3D color display.

There is no reason to believe that Apple will deviate from the philosophy that has gotten it to where it is today. They still believe in the words of the great Wayne Gretzky who described his success in part by saying: “I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been”.

Steve Jobs himself once made reference to the quote when he was discussing the company’s approach to developing new products.
