Facebook may be designing its own phone if a rumor emerging today is accurate. It has been reported that Facebook is building the OS and has tasked a hardware manufacturer to build everything else.
Two high-level Facebook employees; iPhone app developer Joe Hewitt, as well as Google’s previous Chrome OS project leader Matthew Papakipos, are believed to be working on if not leading the project. Both have experience in web-based operating systems and both the employees are working very stealthy together to launch something Facebook can be proud of.
Scared by Google’s impending Nexus One (which was announced back in January of this year), Facebook supposedly planned their own mobile phone something that would integrate Facebook contacts more deeply than anything Android or any other platforms had done before.
As the project is still in early stages, the features of the phone, its release date, and other details are still unknown though no doubt the holiday season is always a good time to launch new products.
Predictions about whether the Facebook phone would be a hit or not are difficult to make at this very early stage as only a little info is available.
