Capcom last Thursday has officially announced the very next iteration in the popular survival-horror Resident Evil series titled as Resident Evil 6. The game will hit the worldwide store shelves on 20th November 2012. Resident Evil 6 will initially be launched on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. No comment has been made yet on the release of the PC version but it is expected to be released within this year.
To date, Resident Evil game franchise, which includes over two dozen sequels, has sold more than 46 million copies and has successfully been imported into Hollywood franchise with over 4 blockbusters.
Here’s everything you need to know about Resident Evil 6:
- Leon S. Kennedy (playable)
- Chris Redfield (playable)
- Ashley (uncertainty about play-ability)
- a New Unnamed Male Character (playable)
Resident Evil 6 will take place a decade after the events of the original Resident Evil game, and for the first time in the series Resident Evil 6 will center around bio-terrorism. According to the official press release:
” …. It has been ten years since the Raccoon City incident and the President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth behind what took place in the belief that it will curb the current resurgence in bioterrorist activity. Due to be by the President’s side is his personal friend and Raccoon City survivor, Leon S. Kennedy, but when the venue suffers a bioterrorist attack, Leon is forced to face a President transformed beyond recognition and make his hardest ever decision. At the same time, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance member, Chris Redfield arrives in China, itself under threat of a bioterrorist attack. With no country safe from these attacks and the ensuing outbreaks, the entire world’s population is united by a common fear that there is no hope left….”
The game will feature a third-person over the shoulder gameplay and players will take control of the two/three main characters of the game; Leon’s story will be staged around Tall Oaks (probably somewhere near Washington DC) whereas Chris will be kicking some zombie butt in China, the new male character will be trying to outrun some highly mutated Resident Evil 3 Nemesis kinda boss in an unfamiliar setting (as evident from the trailer).
Resident Evil 6 will feature a unique combination of gameplay styles; as players will be able to experience Resident 1 and Resident Evil 2 kinda spooky investigation centric gameplay through Leon’s story, Resident Evil 5 and Gears of War inspired action-packed gameplay through Chris’ story and Devil May Cry inspired intensive martial art combat via the new male character.
On the other hand, Resident Evil 5 Retribution official trailer has also been released this week.
