Pakistan has won the final of the tri-series hockey tournament after beating Australia 4-3 and has taken the sweet revenge of its defeat from Australia earlier in this tournament. This is indeed a piece of good news for the sad Pakistanis as today the nation got struck by the news of three of its cricketers being jailed on the proven charges of spot-fixing. A British judge Jeremy Cooke handed down sentences against the three Pakistani cricketers: Mohammad Amir, Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif today in London.
Penalty corner specialist Sohail Abbas as well as Shakeel Abbasi, Imran, and Tauseef scored one goal each for the Pakistani team. President Asif Zardari has congratulated the team on winning the tournament. India was also a part of the tournament but to much delight of Pakistanis, it did not qualify for the final.
Earlier in the tournament, Pakistan lost both of its matches to the hosts but later on, it qualified for the final on the basis of a superior goal difference.
