We all have little moments where we daydream about what it would be like to be a rich celebrity, rolling around in a Bentley, being photographed all day long, and then relaxing in a house that one could only describe as slightly smaller than an international airport. For most, this will remain a dream. But it’s still fun to know exactly how the other half lives. When screen stars and pop singers are turning over a few million per film/tour, they can afford to live somewhat extravagantly. Some celebrity gardens certainly reflect this. These three outrageous celebrity gardens deserve a special mention:
3. In spite of Titanic, Celine Dion is a Water Fan
Well, this Canadian singer caused quite a stir in her neighborhood when she spent a few million on a gigantic water-themed back garden comprising 2 huge swimming pools, a lazy river, and a couple of water slides. Her Florida mansion in fact is but a stone’s through from the beach, where there’s yet more water.
This mammoth backyard water park requires 6.5 million gallons of water per year which has caused her to be very unpopular amongst her neighbors after she used up all the freshwater supply in the area which led to a drought and restrictions being put in place. Had she stuck with a small water feature and some nice wooden garden benches, she perhaps would not have drawn so much attention. Well, her heart may go on but her environmental conscience clearly doesn’t!
2. JK Rowling’s Hogwarts Tree Houses
Every grown-up is a teeny bit jealous of J. K. Rowling’s two kids. She is planning to have outdoor playhouses built in the garden of her Edinburgh mansion which is so big they need planning permission.
The adventure playground that she is planning is said to be costing £150,000 (not even a small dent in her £560 million fortune) and will be made up of Hogwarts-style towers, tunnels, and rope bridges (OK I’m really jealous now).
Imagine how popular those two children will be at school when it comes to their birthdays!
1. John Travolta’s Airport House
This one has to be one of the most outlandish celebrity homes, as his garden is in fact a series of landing strips and plane car parks! The house originally came equipped with a 7,500-foot runway but John Travolta wanted to extend the taxiway so that it reached the front entrance of the house.
This is of course understandable, when one fancies flying to Paris for the evening in time for dinner, one likes to just pop outside and get straight on one’s private Boeing 707. Nothing outlandish about that at all.
What do you think of these amazing celebrity gardens? Can you think of any more than you have seen lately?
