Photos leaked on the internet by an employer who posted a blurred mobile-phone photograph on her microblog reveal that Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg was in Beijing headquarters of China’s largest search engine Baidu on Monday meeting with Robin Li. Baidu the Chief of Baidu.
Besides Russia, China is another huge (having 1.3 billion potential users) market that Facebook is yet to conquer as, like many other online services, Facebook is blocked in China.
The photos instantly lead to speculation that the 26-year-old CEO, who recently was named the Time Magazine Person of the Year for 2010, was there so that the two companies could enter into some kind of agreement in an attempt to stop the blocking of Facebook in Mainland China.
Kaiser Kuo, Baidu’s director of international communications said:
“Obviously I’m not going to deny what’s in the pictures. Rumors that Baidu is about to acquire Facebook are greatly exaggerated. It was just two nerds comparing notes. “
It’s worth mentioning that Zuckerberg’s girlfriend has her family in China and his visit may be a more personal one that it would seem.
As of now, Zuckerberg has remained silent over the issue.
