Iconic Cartoon Characters Around the World

Let’s face it. Even now, as adults, we enjoy watching cartoons. Nowadays we might watch them with our children, and there may be a few strange cartoon characters that have popped up all over the place, but we will always have a handful of staple characters that will be carried down from generation to generation. These are the iconic cartoon characters that have stayed with us throughout our childhood and will be with our children throughout theirs. These are the cartoon characters that have made us laugh, have taught us a few lessons, and have maybe even made us cry a couple of times.

Scooby-Doo

Scooby-Doo, whose real name we bet you didn’t know was Scoobert, is a Great Dane that belongs to Shaggy Rogers. They’re best friends. Both of them share an indefatigable appetite.

Both are scared cats. And both of them will do anything for a Scooby Snack, including brave the most frightening – and hilarious! – situations on their mystery-solving adventures.

Road Runner

Road Runner

Meep meep! Road Runner is perpetually on the run from Wile E. Coyote. Wile E. Coyote keeps trying to catch him, using out-of-this-world ‘ACME’ products.

Somehow, Road Runner always manages to keep away from Wile E. Coyote, and Wile E. Coyote somehow always manages to mess up his plans. I don’t know why he doesn’t just buy his stuff from another cartoon company. ACME products always seem to blow up in his face.

Tom & Jerry

Tom & Jerry

Keeping with the theme of ‘catch somebody so you can eat them’, Tom and Jerry have been feuding for decades, now. The relationship between Tom and Jerry seems to blur the lines between love and hate as their rivalry rages on throughout the ages.

Violent gags like sticking dynamite into each other’s faces, smacking mouse traps on each other, and breaking plates over each other’s heads entertain children from ages 5 to 50!

Bugs Bunny

Ehhhh, what’s up, Doc? He’s easily the coolest cartoon character in the Looney Tunes universe. He’s a trickster, he rarely loses his composure, and he’s got a great sense of humor that children of all ages love.

Bugs Bunny is an anthropomorphic gray rabbit with a New York accent and an arch-nemesis he shares with Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd the Hunter. I’m a-huntin’ for a bunny wabbit!

Calvin & Hobbes

Calvin & Hobbes

Calvin and Hobbes went on all sorts of adventures together. Calvin was a smart little six-year-old boy and Hobbes was his stuffed tiger, who turned into a real tiger when they went on all of their adventures.

They kept us charmed and reading on, and even now adults love going on adventures with Calvin and Hobbes, as they teach us how to keep our childish wonder and our enthusiasm for the universe.

Winnie the Pooh

Winnie the Pooh

A cartoon character created by A.L. Milne, Winnie the Pooh is a silly, honey-loving stuffed bear.

He and his friends have gone on adventures that have been translated into several languages, including Latin (Winnie Ille Pu) and Danish (in Denmark, Winnie the Pooh is known as Peter Plys).

There are still a lot of iconic cartoon characters popular worldwide that have endeared with kids and families. Who are your favorite cartoon characters? Let us know in the comments below!
