Finally, it’s here! Apple has officially announced the iPhone 5 (the slimmest and the lightest iPhone to date) along with the new iPod Nano, the new iPod Touch, iOS 6, and iTunes 11 in a very special iPhone media event held at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in California yesterday. The new iPhone — iPhone 5 — looks exactly the same as we had seen it through various leaked previews before this official announcement. iPhone 5 was officially revealed by Phil Schiller on the media event stage.
Official iPhone 5 Specs
The new iPhone 5 has the same retina display (but better color saturation) and sports a 4-inch screen with a resolution of 1136 x 640 and 326 PPI. It is almost 18% thinner as compared to the iPhone 4S and weighs 20% less too. The iPhone 5 offers LTE as well as HSPA along with WiFi that supports both 2.4GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands.
The new A6 chip doubles the performance of video and the graphics (Real Racing 3 was demonstrated which looked fabulous). iPhone 5 offers an improved 8MP camera which now even allows panoramic shots. The phone is made purely from Aluminium and Glass (instead of just glass) and “fits in your hands easily”. iPhone 5 now has a new connector called ‘Lightening’ and has three improved microphones (for easy access to Siri) and revamped speakers (with improved noise reduction). Despite these improvements in all areas, iPhone 5 still offers better battery life than iPhone 4S (which without any doubt is a great achievement).
iPhone 5 comes in both white and black colors and costs around $199 (16 GB version), $299 (32 GB version), and 399$ (64 GB version).
iOS 6, New Siri, and iTunes 11
No major revelations were there for anyone about iOS 6 as all of its major features were already discussed and demonstrated at WWDC. The same is true for the new and improved Siri. However, iTunes 11 was something completely out of the box. It offers a completely revamped interface and some really cool features including Facebook likes (yes believe it or not).
iPhone 5 Release Date
iPhone 5’s pre-orders will start on September 14 and shipment will start on September 21st. The initial rollout will be limited to some countries but at the end of this month, the rollout will expand to more than 100 countries (which will make it the fastest iPhone rollout ever).
iOS 6 Release Date
iOS 6 will be available for download from September 19 for devices such as iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 2, the new iPad (aka iPad 3), and iPod Touch (4th gen onwards).
iTunes 11 Release Date
No specific release date was announced at the event and for now, all we know is that it will be available by “late October”.
Has iPhone 5 lived up to its hype? Are you impressed? Will you buy one? Let us know in the comments below!
Seems to have a another achievements of Apple, but still reviews will tell the story.
no offense to iphone users(since i am one of them) but this iFail 5 is actually a Fail and much over-priced.
i didn’t know till today that innovation is increasing the dimensions of phone and screen size, overclocked A-5 processor(with few modifications and calling it 2X faster and 2X better),etc.
had waited for it for so long. Quite disappointing, i must say.
Better buy iPhone 4s just in case you really wanna buy iPhone, you will feel no difference.
otherwise there exists a huge & better world outside apple. :D
people who criticize iphone 5 do not understand the concept of an eco system
