So you have installed the custom-built iOS 5.0.1 on your iPhone and now might be wondering how to unlock it. If you don’t already have installed iOS 5.0.1 and most importantly the Jailbroken version, then you need to Jailbreak your iPhone first, only then will this tutorial work for you. Once the custom iOS 5.0.1 i.e the jailbroken one is installed the device will be unlocked. Let’s take a look at how to unlock iOS 5.0.1 easily:
Step 1
If you have not downloaded Redsnow yet then download Redsn0w 0.9.10b1. (Windows – Mac OS X). Now, open Redsnow.exe.
Step 2
Make sure your device is in DFU mode and connected to your system. If you do not know how to enter DFU mode then take a look at this “How to Enter DFU Mode” tutorial.
Step 3
Now click on “Jailbreak” then “Install Cydia”
Step 4
The iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak will take a few minutes.
Step 5
After the jailbreak procedure has finished, launch the newly installed ‘Cydia’ application that is present on your iPhone’s Springboard.
Step 6
The required repository comes as default with Cydia, but for education purposes to add a repo you will need to tap on the ‘Manage’ tab, followed by ‘Sources’, and then finally select ‘Add’. After completing those steps an alert will pop up with the title ‘Enter Cydia/APT URL’.
Step 7
Add the following URL to the pop-up alert – repo666.ultrasn0w.com – then select ‘Add Source’.
Step 8
After Cydia has finished refreshing and adding packages, tap on the above-mentioned repo and install the Ultrasn0w utility. If you can’t find it try searching through the iPhone search option. Congratulations, you are now the owner of an unlocked iPhone.
