Billboard Music Award Winners 2012

The performance tributes and live performances packed 2012 Billboard Music Awards were held on Sunday night at MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. The top winners of the evening include both surprising and highly anticipated names like Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Adele, and LMFAO. The three-hour show was brilliantly hosted by Modern Family stars Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen.

Due to the loss of several singers in the music world this year, including the two recent deaths in the last week alone, a number of tribute performances were made. The most anticipated tribute performance of the evening dedicated to Whitney Houston’s was made by Jordin Sparks. Singer Robin Gibb (who died on Sunday) was honorably mentioned at the event along with many other late singers such as Donna Summer and Adam Yauch. A whopping total of 15 live performances was made at the event which includes the performances of Cee Lo Green, Linkin Park, Chris Brown, and Usher.

Now let’s talk about the winners, Adele literally rocked the event by winning a dozen awards which even included the biggest awards of the night such as Top Female Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Pop Album and Top Alternative Song. LMFAO comes next for getting six awards. Following LMFAO are Lil Wayne and Coldplay who both took four awards each. Lady Gaga, Casting Crowns and Jason Aldean come next with each of them winning two awards.

Legendary singer Stevie Wonder was honored with the ‘Icon Award’. Taylor Swift has crowned the ‘Billboard Woman of the Year’ whereas Justin Bieber was named the most social artist of the year. Kaye Perry grabbed one of the most precious awards of the night as well as of her career – the prestigious ‘Spotlight Award’ (previously only awarded to the moonwalking legend; Micheal Jackson). She received this award for becoming the very first female singer in history to garner five Billboard number ones from a single album (Teenage Dream). Katy Perry also brought her 91-year-old grandmother to the music award show as her date and debuted her new single “Wide Awake”.

Miley Cyrus on the other hand also got widespread attention, but not for any award, rather for her revealing wardrobe.
