Facebook has announced that it has surpassed the 500 million-member mark when a (500 Million + 1)th member registered at Facebook. Facebook already enjoys an Alexa Ranking of 2 just behind Google.
Multi Billionaire CEO Mark Zuckerberg writes in a blog post:
“I could have never imagined all of the ways people would use Facebook when we were getting started 6 years ago. I want to thank you for being part of making Facebook what it is today and for spreading it around the world.”
Zuckerberg has also announced the launch of “Facebook Stories” more of a “visual memorial” to celebrate 500 million users which will list the stories of Facebook users that have been impacted by Facebook however this tool is a platform that lets anybody share their Facebook Stories. Facebook Stories will sort user-submitted stories by location and theme.
Later today, Zuckerberg is expected to make a rare television appearance on ABC’s World News, where he’ll be interviewed by Diane Sawyer focussing on what the 500 million milestone means for the company and soon to be released movie based on Facebook beginnings.
The question a lot of people also want to know is how big Zuckerberg thinks Facebook can get. Will Facebook hit 1 billion users? Currently, Prediction is 2012. While it’s an ambitious goal, Facebook is one of a couple of sites that can actually achieve such grand ambitions.
