Call Of Duty: Black Ops II has earned $500 million in the first 24 hours of its release, making it the biggest hit of the year. The game was launched globally at more than 16,000 market places and stores. Black Ops II has also been the trending topic on Twitter in around 23 cities worldwide on the day of its launch.

Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said in a statement:

“Call of Duty has become more than a product people buy, it’s a brand people buy into and every November we do more than just the launch of a game, we kick off an annual, unofficial but worldwide phenomenon called the Call of Duty season.”

Activision started Call Of Duty franchise in 2003 which has been tremendously famous ever since. Now with the release of Call Of Duty: Black Ops II, the COD franchise has even surpassed the global sales of the most successful movie franchises such as Harry Potter and Star Wars series.

Black Ops II sales are currently more than double the $220 million sales of Halo 4 which was released for Xbox 360 last week. The sales figure was expected to be comparatively huge for Black Ops II as it has been released for Xbox 360, Play Station 3 and Windows simultaneously.

Amazon and GameStop both have disclosed that pre-orders for Black Ops II have even exceeded the pre-orders of last year’s Modern Warfare 3 game which clearly hints that Black Ops II might become the top-selling COD game of all time.

Activision however has not still revealed the exact number of copies sold, so it is difficult to compare it with old installments of Call Of Duty, but in 2010, Black Ops hit $360 million sales in first 24 hours of its launch whereas its next installment Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare III exceeded first day sale records of the previous installment and set a record earning of $400 million in its first 24 hours of release.

The gameplay features two storylines connected to each other, one of the stories is set in the 1970s to 1980s and the other is set in 2025. The most amazing thing about the game is that it has several alternate endings that are triggered depending upon the set of conditions that a player fulfills while moving through the chapters.
