As reported by Huffington Post, Maria Shriver, the wife of stunning actor and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, has filed for divorce on Friday in Superior Court in Los Angeles.
55-year-old Shriver met Arnold in 1977 and married in 1986. In 2011 she cited “irreconcilable differences” with her husband. Anyone can go through a divorce, no matter how famous you are.
Maria decided to file for divorce when it was unveiled before two months that Arnold had a secret love child with his housekeeper.
It was admitted by 63 years old Schwarzenegger in May that he had fathered a child with the family’s long-time housekeeper, Mildred Baena and announced the couple’s separation.
The former US president John F. Kennedy’s niece, Maria Shriver has asked the court for joint custody of their two younger children 17-year-old Patrick and 13-year old Christopher.
Shriver has also requested from the court the spousal support from Arnold and also wants him to pay her attorney fees.
It is not highlighted in legal papers if Maria and Arnold had a prenuptial agreement but it is speculated that they did not sign one when they tied the knot in 1986.
Under California law, all earnings and property gained during a marriage must be divided up equally. It seems like Arnold and Maria will split their joint fortune of around $400 million.
It has been reported that the divorce settlement might take months to be finished.
For the representation of Maria divorce proceedings, Laura Wasser has been hired, while Arnold has chosen Robert Kaufman, who represented Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon when their respective marriages unfortunately ended.
