What is keyword analysis? Keyword analysis is the process of identifying the best keyword to describe your product or site. This is the most important step you can take if you are trying to be successful at internet marketing, affiliate marketing, or blogging. You need to select a keyword that the search engines will recognize as relevant to your site and rank your page highly; this is called “search engine optimization” or SEO. The keyword must be relevant, it needs to be competitive, and it needs to be a term for which people frequently search. This is where keyword analysis is helpful. More specifically, keyword analysis is the process of a entering a keyword into an analytical tool, and getting a list of similar keywords with statistics on competition and search frequency. Most people use Google’s External Keyword Search Tool so you might want to go to this link now. Enter the keyword that you have selected into the box at the top of the screen, and view the results.
You will see that the search has returned a number of variations on your keyword, along with statistics on the competition, the number of searches for this term in the most recent month, and data on global monthly searches, which is an average of the number of searches in the past 12 months. Make a list of keywords that have a high number of global monthly searches (at least 240 per month), low competition (around 0.2) and good CPC (minimum 0.25$). Select your best keywords from this list and then try to write quality articles on related to those keywords.
How to do Keywords Analysis Once Inside the Keyword Tool
You can enter the simple keyword or phrase, a misspelling of that keyword (people are terrible typists and spellers and you may pick up a lot of ideas this way), or an “exact match,” of the phrase placed in quotes. Consider using “long-tail keywords,” which are longer phrases that make your keyword more specific, and therefore bring in more targeted traffic and a better chance of conversions to your site.
An example of a basic keyword might be “dress shoes”; a more specific keyword phrase would be “women’s dress shoes.” A long-tail keyword phrase might be “women’s dress shoes by Etienne Aigner.” Always focus on the longest keywords first as they are easier to rank.
Additional Tips on Using Keywords and Keyword Analysis
Here are some useful keyword analysis tips that can really make a difference:
- Keep your keyword density to about 2% of the total word count of your content.
- Do not use your keyword(s) excessively, as that is considered to be keyword stuffing, and is frowned upon by Google.
- Perform keyword analysis on several different keywords and use LSI keywords on your pages.
- Each page on your site should have its own relevant keywords.
- Periodically update your keyword search for your site or your page. Keep keywords current.
- Try to avoid keywords for which Query Deserves Freshness algorithm can get activated in near future.
- Make sure to enter your targeted keywords in your images (alt attribute, title and even image name).
- Make sure your keywords are specific for the country to which you are addressing your blog or post. If you are writing about automobiles in a post for the UK, do not use “hood” for the hood of the car, use “bonnet,” the British term for hood.
