Most Anticipated Movies of 2015

While some make new resolutions when the New Year arrives, many begin to wait for the release date of a movie they have been waiting for so long. In what seems to be a promising year for cinema and theatricality, it is definitely safe to say that the year 2015 will not be an ordinary year for movies. Following are the most anticipated movies of 2015 that you shouldn’t miss:

20. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (Delayed to 2016)

What was a roller coaster of thriller-horror film series now seems to be burnt out and falling down. The Resident Evil series has made quite a name for itself, but it is thankfully coming to an end with this last iteration.

Paul W. S. Anderson is returning with Milla Jovovich for one last time as director and Alice respectively in the sixth installment and the closing chapter of the heart-stomping Resident Evil franchise.

Although the film was scheduled to be released in 2015 Milla’s pregnancy pushed the release date to no earlier than 2016. The filming, however, is expected to resume this August.

19. The Fantastic Four

Serving as a reboot of the Fantastic Four series by 20th Century Fox, the upcoming movie of the same name explores the lives of four people taking an abrupt turn during space travel. Discovering that they have gained incredible powers after being teleported to an alternate universe, the group learns that they must use them wisely in order to stop Doctor Doom.

18. The Martian

From the director of Blade Runner and Black Hawk Down, comes another science-fiction movie to astound the audience as Ridley Scott will be teaming up with Matt Damon to take us on a space adventure on Mars.

Based upon Andy Weir’s novel of the same name, the movie will explore the journey of stranded astronaut Mark Watney on the planet Mars after his crew had to leave due to a severe dust storm.

17. Mr. Holmes

Sherlock Holmes is one of the most iconic fictional characters of all time. Erupting from mystery novels and being portrayed by countless actors on stage, on television, and in movies, the detective will have one more movie this year.

Unlike the cunning and sly version of the character portrayed recently by Robert Downey, Jr. and Benedict Cumberbatch, the movie will showcase a 93-year-old Sherlock Holmes portrayed by none other than Ian McKellen.

16. Black Mass

Aged 51 but still young at heart, Johnny Depp is one of the most brilliant actors of his generation. Playing larger-than-life roles time and time again, the actor is set to appear in the crime-drama film, Black Mass.

Based upon the book Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob, the movie will highlight the life of organized crime figures and murderer Whitney Bulger.

15. The Gunman

After one year of absence, the two-time Academy Award winner Sean Penn will be returning in the action thriller film The Gunman as Martin Terrier, an international operative.

Trying to take a break from his business and settle down with his longtime girlfriend, the plan does not come together when his company has different plans for him; prompting him to go on the run across Europe.

14. Mad Max: Fury Road

For the first time in three decades, George Miller returns with the fourth installment of his Mad Max franchise. The post-apocalyptic action movie will be released in a four-month time.

It is interesting to note that the movie will have a different tone than its predecessors as Tom Hardy will be replacing Mel Gibson in the role of “Mad” Max Rockatansky.

13. Jupiter Ascending

Everyone remembers the iconic Matrix trilogy. It was an innovation in filmmaking and truly ahead of its time. Being the brainchild of Larry and Andy Wachowski, it will be exciting to see their next work.

That is where Jupiter Ascending comes in. Directed and written by the Wachowskis, the movie focuses on troubled janitor Jupiter Jones who realizes that her destiny is much beyond her planet.

12. Ant-Man

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to introduce a new superhero to the silver screen. While the most powerful superheroes are not the smallest, thief Scott Lang will make a difference.

Using sophisticated technology that allows him to shrink in size but increase his strength, Lang becomes an unlikely savior of the world with the alias Ant-Man.

11. The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials

Director Wes Ball did a spot-on job by making a film adaption of the novel The Maze Runner by James Dashner and is picking up things from right where he left by working on a sequel to the science-fiction thriller movie.

Releasing in seven months and based upon The Scorch Trials novel, Thomas and fellow Gladers will engage in a difficult battle against a mysterious organization known as W.C.KD.
