Fist fights in movies fall into two main categories – there’s the one on one scenes, favoured by boxers, and then there’s the ‘one guy against many’ fights that really give the heroes a chance to show how skillful they are.

Jet Li – Kiss of the Dragon

One great example of this is in Kiss of the Dragon. Jet Li fights his way through a building to get to ‘The Boss’, and uses his superior thinking and nimble way of fighting to defeat a whole horde of opponents. From his initial assault on a security guard, who is dispatched with one swift kick to the face, Li then takes on an entire class of martial arts students. Singly, in pairs and latterly in larger groups, they attack him from all sides, but Li is never overpowered.

Utilising equipment in the room, but mainly using his own fists and feet, no group of fighters is a match for his prowess. Leaving a room full of groaning invalids behind him, he moves on to fight a guy nearly twice his size, who at first seems to be unbeatable. No matter how many times he is knocked down, he always gets back up and just keeps on coming.

After several minutes of spectacular fighting, however, Li gets him on his knees and delivers a fatal kick to the head, snapping his neck in the process.

Keanu Reeves – The Matrix: Reloaded

The Matrix: Reloaded uses the same ‘one on many’ technique as ‘Neo‘ fights off an army of ‘Agent Smiths’, but utilises modern techniques to dramatise the fighter’s skills. Neo can fly, stop bullets with the power of his mind, and virtually disappear, only to reappear close by and deliver the final blow.

As more and more agents pour into the deserted street and the rain batters them all from above, Neo is still indestructible.

No matter what the agents throw at him, his leaps, kicks and punches seem to come from nowhere, and he dispatches hundreds of agents in a matter of minutes, all the while conserving enough energy to go on and fight the original Agent Smith.

Robert de Niro – Raging Bull

For one on one fights, though, Raging Bull deserves a mention. The sheer brutality of the boxing scenes in this film take ones breath away. Towards the beginning of Jake la Motta’s career, we see him as the undefeated champion of the ring. Sylvester Stallone – Rocky

The first thing that you’re going to see when you start your browser would be the speed dial that allows you to visit your preferred sites really fast. You can easily add or get rid of options in the speed dial interface.

Tabs

The other thing that you’ll notice right off the bet is tabs. They really make browsing with multiple sites open a snap. You can open a few sites in a really convenient way and just toggle back and forth to the site you need at that particular moment.

Gestures

Another really big and prominent thing in the browser is gestures. Let me explain if you’re not exactly sure what that might mean in terms of the app. Say, you want to go to Google. Testing this super-dooper cool feature of the browser, it occurred to me that it would really rock if the same idea worked across the whole phone. I mean so that you can draw like a clock, and it fires up your alarm clock app. Things like that. I’m not sure if it’s technically easy to do, but the idea itself seems to be very to the point, right?

Full screen mode

If you feel like you can’t see a website in its full swing, you just swipe to the left and enable the full screen mode. The right hand panel also allows you to add all sorts of add-ons for the browser, but it’s a topic for a different story.

Bookmarks

In order to access and manage bookmarks, you need to swipe from the left hand side. Once you tap on a bookmark button and hold down for like a second, it’ll bring up a menu that allows you to open, edit, delete or add a shortcut to your home screen.

Settings

The settings option allows you to go to your bookmarks, forward, draw a gesture, share your page, manage downloads or exit your app. One of the options in the “More” section has another settings option, which presents you with a more in-depth way of tweaking the app:

- User Agent

You can specify how you want a site to be viewed: Android (default), Desktop, iPhone, iPad or custom etc.

- Search Engine

This feature just allows you to set your default search engine. You can opt for one of the following options: Google (duh!), Bing, and Yahoo.

- Exit Settings

This section allows you to specify what should happen when you wish to shut down the app: confirm before exiting, clear cache when exiting, clear history when exiting, and clear cookie when exiting.

This option allows you to connect your Dolphin browser with Facebook, Google Account or your Dolphin account. Whatever works best for you.

- Web Content

In this section, you can define your text size, text encoding, Auto-fit Images, Default Zoom, Open Pages in Overview, Load Images. In addition, you also have the option to enable Flash (it’s off by default), JavaScript, etc. You can also choose if you’d like to block pop-up windows and see security warnings.

- Privacy and Personal Data

It’s got a whole lot of options. You can clear any data of your choice: cache, history, HTML5 data, all cookie data, form data, passwords, and location access. Apart from that, you can backup your stuff, it’ll encrypt and save your settings, bookmarks, and web data to your SD card (you may also want to take advantage of the possibility to set your password to that data for extra security). Sure thing, you’ll be able to restore all that data down the road.

You might need to use the feature when you reinstall your Android device operating system. One of the features in this section enables you to import your bookmarks, but I’d suggest installing the xmarks add-on for Dolphin. Google has just launched Version 19 of its immensely popular, super fast web browser - Google Chrome, throughout the globe. The newest version offers various bug fixes but the highlighted feature of the latest version is its Tab Syncing. With this additional feature, after signing into Chrome, users can sync their opened browser tabs across all of their devices (which include tablets and smartphones running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich).

Google has itself explained the sync feature in an official blog post:

“When you’re signed in to Chrome, your open tabs are synced across all your devices, so you can quickly access them from the “Other devices” menu on the New Tab page. If you’ve got Chrome for Android Beta, you can open the same recipe tab right on your phone when you run out to the store for more ingredients. The back and forward buttons will even work, so you can pick up browsing right where you left off.”

Warfare is a part of human history and frequently wars change the direction that history moves. Nonetheless, there are times when history will look back at a war and have no idea if there is a legitimate casus belli or if the war actually changed anything. This has happened many times in the era of modern warfare, and unfortunately, it will happen again.

6. Yom Kippur War

On October 6, 1973 a coalition of nations led by Egypt and Syria launched a surprise invasion of Israel during the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur in an attempt to retake the Sinai, the Gaza Strip and the Golan Heights. In the two and a half weeks that the war lasted, both Arab coalition and Israel suffered heavy military losses and at the end – Israel, with thousands of causalities for the very first time and the utter destruction of the Bar Lev Line, was less than 100 miles from Cairo and a mere 25 miles outside of Damascus.

The final treaty did not resolve any territorial claims, and both Egypt and Israel were forced to recognize that they could not defeat each other militarily. The war also upset the status quo in the Middle East leading to the resignation of Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir, the signing of the Camp David Accords (thus recognition of Israel by Egypt), and the eventual assassination of Anwar al Sadat.

5. 1948 Arab-Israeli War

Due to the biased allotment of territory for Arab Palestine during the 1947 partition of the British Mandate of Palestine, the Palestinians and their Arab allies started a full fledged war with the Jewish forces in the region. On May 14, 1948, David Ben-Gurion declared the state of Israel to be an independent nation, but the war continued and by the end of the 10 months of conflict the Arabs had lost thousands of troops and half of the land designated to be Arab.

This war established Israel as a regional power as well as started the state’s concept of warfare with its neighbors (which exists even today).

4. Indo-Pak Wars

Due to the controversial partition of the sub-continent in 1947 by the Britishers, war immediately broke out between the two newly born states aka Pakistan and India. Both countries rushed to occupy as much contested territory as possible and faced off each other at  Kashmir region furiously. The war ended by the intervention of UN but as issues were not resolved war broke out again in 1965 and 1971. Both countries went on to become nuclear power and war broke out again between the two newly formed nuclear states in 1999. The war again settled by the intervention of UN and United States.

The dispute remains even today, with no end in sight, and till date has caused 50,000+ deaths. Despite the loss of East Pakistan, the border between West Pakistan (called now simply as ‘Pakistan’) and India, known as Line Of Control (LOC), today remains where it has always been.

3. Franco-Prussian War

In the last half of the nineteenth tensions between the French Empire and the Kingdom of Prussia had been high and they got worse after disputes over the Spanish throne the Prussian king insulted the French ambassador, at least it seemed so. Actually, the telegram describing the insults was fabricated by Chancellor Otto von Bismarck to goad the French into declaring war.

Napoleon III was happy to oblige and within a year, he was disposed, almost 30,000 Frenchmen were dead and almost 90,000 wounded, Germany was united into a single empire with Prussia as its head, and France lost two very valuable provinces, Alsace and Lorraine.

2. The War of 1812

Britain was embroiled in a centennial war against Napoleon Bonaparte and during this conflict they engaged in the common practices of blockading ports and impressments of sailors. Because of these issues, as well as a desire for expansion into Canada, the United States declared war with Britain.

Over the next three and a half years, war was waged on the high seas, in the Caribbean, in Canada, and in the United States. By the time the war ended the United States lost 15,000 people and had their capital burned to the ground while Britain had lost 5,000. The stated causes of the war, blockading and impressments, had been stopped by the British during the course of the war, and when the treaty was signed, the borders remained status quo ante bellum.

1. The Great War

World War I has been called ‘the world’s largest family feud’. Before the war started, nations were primarily monarchies and most of the kings were descendants of Queen Victoria. On one side were the Allies powers: The British Empire, the Russian Empire, the Kingdom of Italy, the Kingdom of Serbia, the Kingdom of Greece, and the French Third Republic. Opposing them were the Central Powers: The German Empire, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and the Ottoman Empire. Since the Franco-Prussian War these countries had made interconnecting alliances that maintained peace through a very fragile balance of power.

This balance was upset on June 28, 1914 when the crown prince of the Austro-Hungarian Empire was assassinated leading to war being declared all over Europe. When the war finally ended 999 days later, there were 32 million killed and wounded, nations from all continents were involved, and this became the first true ‘world war’. The war also caused the fall of most of the monarchs in Europe with only the King of Great Britain remaining.

The Romanovs had fallen in Russian and Lenin became leader of the Soviet Union. The German Empire fell and was replaced by the ineffectual Weimar Republic. Austria-Hungary fell and was broken up into many countries, as was the Ottoman Empire. Because of the devastation from this war, a lowly former corporal in Germany was able to eventually rise to become Chancellor, a Cold War was established between the East and the West, and the Middle East broke up and lost its moderating influences in Turkey.

Final Thoughts

Some people feel that all wars are unnecessary, and while it is always a terrible event and despite of the fact that no war ends without a negotiating table, war is sometimes necessary.

We have all heard stories told late at night, around campfires, and even on TV. Myths and legends tell tales of ghost or spirits roaming the earth. Unable to rest in peace because of something that wasn’t finished in their lives. Ghost stories and haunting have become increasingly popular with the invention of ghost hunting. The question that still remains is, are ghosts real? Do those restless spirits haunt the living? Do they let their presence be known?

Ghost Pictures

Some of the eeriest things about hauntings is when they are caught on cameras or recorders. This evidence isn’t always found in haunted locations, but when it is, it is amazing. Pictures that have been taken showing abnormalities that can range from spots to human forms.

The spots have been named spirit orbs, but some of them have be debunked as bugs or dust. Also the mists and human forms may have just been double exposure, but can it all be messed up film? Thats where digital photos have come in. Then of course people say that these photos have been computer enhanced. Agian those images have also come under scrutiny from the skeptics.

There have been some remarkable images caught on video. Things being thrown across the room, or just moving by themselves. Shadow people being there one minute, and then disappeared the next.

Another piece of evidence is voices caught on recordings that were not heard with the human ear. These recordings are call EVPs, or electronic voice phenomena. These EVPs can range from noises of activities long passed or voices of the dead answering your questions. Eerie voices of the dead speaking to the living.

Ghost Hunting

Ghost hunting has now become a money making industry. More and more you see TV shows popping up, showing investigations of haunted locations. People can’t get enough of what goes bump in the night. Can all these TV shows be real though? They all show different ways to “hunt” ghosts from technical debunkers to mediums communicating with the spirits. Is the evidence that these shows catch reliable or are they just trying to sell the thrill? Those questions would only be answered by investigating yourself.

Scientific Theories

There are even many scientific theories that try to explain these phenomenons, most popular one being - just like a magnetic tape the magnetic field of earth records everything and sometimes due to some mysterious and unknown reasons like a magnetic tape player, earth re-plays what has been recorded (remember this is just a theory with no credible proof).

Conclusion

Ghost stories have intrigued mankind for centuries. People want to know what happens to us when we pass from this world. Can these hauntings that are being caught in pictures, video, and recorders be real? Is there a way for our spirits to come back and give others messages, or is it all in our heads?

Android music fans today must be high on luck as the popular iOS music app, Turntable.fm has now landed on Android platform. For those who are unfamiliar with this application, it is an extremely popular music app (previously available only on iOS) that makes each participating user a DJ (a maximum number of five people can act as a DJ inside a single room). All users inside a room listen to a song played by a DJ and a DJ can select a song to be played during his or her turn.

The listeners (as well as the participating DJs) have the ability to vote about whether they liked the played track or not. The app allows every DJ to play their song of choice at least once. The votes are responsible for earning the users some points which can then be utilized to improve their avatar etc. The votes are like a double edge sword, if the votes are negative then they can lead to the dismissal of a DJ’s preferred song and the turn will be awarded to the other remaining users.

The app also offers its users the ability to chat inside various virtual “rooms”. There are a total of three filters by which rooms can be sorted namely; Popular, Needs DJs and Favourites.

The chat feature of Android version of Turntable.fm has been recently reported to crash occasionally. However, according to the developers it is a minor bug and is encountered only when there is too much traffic over the network (a lot of people simultaneously trying to enter a room for chatting etc). As per the developers, the bug has been identified and would be fixed in a near future update.
